These blackberry jalapeno margaritas are so flavorful, so vibrant and so delicious. Sweet, spicy, floral and fun.
The Story:
Made using a jalapeno simple syrup, fresh blackberry and lime juices, tequila, then finished with a rim of chili lime or Tajin seasoning. You’ll have these on repeat this summer! The fresh blackberry juice serves as such a sweet, gentle main flavor profile, combined with a floral, herby background flavor from the jalapeno, with just a bit of warmth. Keep the seeds in the jalapeno when making your simple syrup for more of a kick! Make these blackberry jalapeno margaritas along side my air fryer salmon tacos and have the most delicious taco Tuesday right at home!

The Ingredients:
Here is the list of ingredients you will need to make these blackberry jalapeno margaritas:
- Tequila: I use 100% pure agave tequila. This means there is nothing added to it, like sugar or additives. Using 100% pure agave tequila allows the best flavor and will help ensure you don’t get a headache or hangover.
- Fresh Blackberries: The star ingredient! I prefer using fresh berries in this recipe because that will yield the best, sweetest flavor with no tartness to it. That said, if you can’t find any fresh blackberries, feel free to swap in frozen blackberries.
- Lime: You’ll definitely want to use fresh lime juice for fresh, citrus flavor.
- Jalapeno: The other star ingredient! The jalapeno brings such a nice warm spice that compliments the sweet blackberries so well. I like to remove most of the seeds to let the floral/herby flavor of the jalapeno shine, with just a bit of warmth in the background.
- Sugar: For the simple syrup. You could sub the sugar with honey, syrup or coconut sugar if you do not tolerate refined sugar, but it will change the flavor profile slightly.
- Water: For the simple syrup. The sugar and jalapeno’s gets added with water to create a simple syrup. The water will thicken to become syrupy when cooked down with the sugar.
- Honey: For dipping the rim of your cocktail glass in for an elevated presentation. You could use agave or just water as well.
- Chili Lime or Tajin Seasoning: For dipping the rim of your cocktail glass in for an additional kick of heat and flavor.
Step By Step Preparation Instructions:
- Step 1: The first step is to make the jalapeno simple syrup. Add water, sugar and sliced jalapeno to a medium saucepan. For less spice, remove all of, or most of, the seeds of the jalapeno before adding to the saucepan. By removing the seeds, the syrup takes on more of a floral, herbal flavor with a background warmth, which I love! For more spice, keep the seeds. Heat through on medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has dissolved and the liquid has taken on the flavor of the jalapeno. Set aside to fully cool. You can make this ahead of time as well and store in the fridge until ready to use.
- Step 2: Now, add your fresh berries and lime juice to a bowl. Muddle the berries until they have broken down and released their juices. Strain out the pulp and seeds and set aside.
- Step 3: Pour honey, agave or just plain water onto a shallow plate, then dip the rim of your glass into it. Then, add your chili lime or Tajin seasoning to another shallow plate and dip the rim of your glass into it. This is a great way to add flavor and elevate the look of your cocktail!
- Step 4: Add the blackberry and lime juice, tequila, jalapeno simple syrup and ice to a cocktail shaker (or mason jar with a lid). Shake generously, then pour over ice in your rimmed glass. Enjoy!
