Spicing up your diet doesn’t have to be complicated. This flavorful homemade pumpkin butter screams fall and comes together quickly, with minimal ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.
The Story:
You can easily elevate your toast, pancakes, or biscuits with this pumpkin butter! Slather on some “regular” butter, then slather on this pumpkin butter and it’s a match made in heaven. It would be a great dip to add to your charcuterie boards, bonus points if you serve it in a mini pumpkin bowl…is there anything more cute or festive!? So fun. It would also make a nice little gift to give this holiday season. Put some in a little mason jar, tie on a ribbon, and you have a sweet gift for neighbors or teachers. I love using this pumpkin butter on my grain free crepes too! You can find that recipe here for an easy, filling, delicious and quick breakfast.

🧾The Ingredients:
Here is the list of ingredients you will need to make this homemade pumpkin butter.
- Pure Pumpkin: Look for pure pumpkin or pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling! Pure and delicious.
- Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds some sweetness and rich flavor. You could also use pure maple syrup…which I will do next time to keep this super healthy.
- Apple Cider: The apple cider will reduce out while you “cook” this pumpkin butter, but the flavor profile remains and adds depth.
- Seasonal Spices: Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Ginger add warmth and those traditional fall/Thanksgiving flavors you love. Feel free to add just a touch of cloves if you would like to. Don’t add too much as it can become strong, very quickly!
- Vanilla: A touch of vanilla gets added for additional richness.
Step By Step Preparation Instructions:
- Step 1: Place your pure pumpkin on a paper towel and gently wring out extra moisture. This step also allows you to cut down on the “cooking” time of this pumpkin butter since you are reducing the amount of liquid prior to heating.
- Step 2: Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and let it simmer on medium low heat for 15-20 minutes. Your house will smell AMAZING. You are just looking for the liquid to simmer off and for the flavors to come together, so you’re left with a thick and creamy, flavorful pumpkin butter. That’s it!
- Optional Step 3: You can then add the pumpkin butter to a blender or food processor and blend for a minute or two to create an even creamier texture. This step is optional though! Feel free to double/triple the recipe if you’re serving a crowd.
